A clean break

I guess this happens to everybody at some point in their biking life and I now fully sympathise with all those people who have had to go through the same. I am of course talking about the ever so common collarbone break, I wonder what percentage of bikers have had this injury over the years?

There were no crazy stunts involved in this accident, I was just simply riding along a fairly flat trail (as they all are down south), but managed to catch my foot on a log which acted as a perfect pivot, I had a very short journey through the air before hitting the deck. It hurt, at first I thought there were no real injuries until I felt the tell tale sign of the collarbone sticking out more than usual. I walked the fairly short journey back to the car and managed to pack the bike up with my one remaining good arm.

The ambulance took a little extra time in finding me as I didn’t know the actual location of the car park but eventually they did and eventually I was on my to a hospital, the nice ambulance crew also let me take the bike as I didn’t want to leave it all on it’s own in the car in plain view of any thieves nearby.

It’s been about 8 weeks now since I fell and while I have most of the movement back in the shoulder it still isn’t fully healed or strong enough to ride like I used to, so I’m stuck taking gentle strolls and doing daft exercises on the wii to try stay relatively fit.
